SatinStone™ Granite

SatinStone™ is the natural stone alternative to polished quartz with the advantages of its greater stain, UV and heat resistance.  It’s permanently sealed and re-sealing is not necessary or recommended. The SatinStone™ Granite Collection offers a full 5-year limited warranty and is available in a gloss, satin, or suede finish.

Can SatinStone™ Granite be stained? All products, including quartz and natural stone, can be stained. There is no such thing as a stain-proof countertop. However, SatinStone™ is highly stain resistant and outperforms quartz products.

How easy is it to maintain? Soap and water are all that’s usually necessary for cleaning. Re-sealing is not necessary and is not recommended. An occasional application of Lemon Clean Pledge may be used to restore water beading and luster to your countertops.

Is it heat resistant? The SatinStone™ Granite Collection is extremely heat resistant and can be used as a surround for a wood or gas burning fireplace.

Can it be used outdoors? Yes! SatinStone™  Granites can be used outdoors if the resin that is used at the factory has been removed thru the brushing process. Some granites have deep voids which are filled with resin which can not be totally removed. However, while many granite options in the suede finish are suited for outdoors, some will change colors under direct prolonged direct exposure to UV rays. It is best to consult with your dealer as to which options work well outdoors.

Can any granite be converted into a SatinStone™ product? Yes! Any granite product can be honed and then permanently sealed with SatinStone’s™ proprietary sealing system. The process enhances the color and light reflection of the honed and sealed surface. All SatinStone™ Granite surfaces also come with a full 5-year limited warranty.

SatinStone™ Quartz

The SatinStone™ Quartz Collection is honed (Satin) or brushed (Suede) quartz. It’s permanently pre-sealed and backed by a full 5-year limited warranty. It outperforms polished and honed quartz.

Can SatinStone™ Quartz be stained? There is no such thing as a stain proof countertop. However, SatinStone™ is highly stain resistant, and outperforms  polished and honed quartz.

How easy is it to maintain? Soap and water are all that’s usually necessary for cleaning. Re-sealing is not necessary and is not recommended. An occasional application of Lemon Clean Pledge may be used to restore water beading and luster to your countertops.

Is it heat resistant? SatinStoneTM Quartz is heat resistant up to about 350 degrees for short durations. It should not be used in high heat environments such as a surround around a wood burning fireplace. However, it can be used as a surround for a gas burning fireplace.

Can it be used outdoors? Outdoor use is not recommended. The resin used in quartz products typically breaks down outdoors and the overall color fades dramatically in direct sunlight.

Can any polished quartz be converted into a SatinStone™ product? Yes! Polished quartz can be honed or brushed and then permanently sealed with SatinStone’sTM proprietary sealing system. The process enhances the color and light reflection of the honed quartz. All SatinStone™ Quartz surfaces also come with a full 5-year limited warranty.

Can any honed quartz be converted into a SatinStone™ product? No. Some quartz manufacturers apply waxes to honed quartz products in order to protect them from staining. The SatinStone™ sealing process is not designed to work over a wax coated surface.

Why choose SatinStone™ over honed quartz? Polished quartz countertops have earned a solid reputation for low maintenance and high performance. On the other hand, honed quartz has been plagued by staining and maintenance problems. A SatinStone™ Quartz slab outperforms polished quartz and is backed by a 5-year limited warranty.

SatinStone™ Concrete

The SatinStone™ Concrete Collection is available in two choices: RG (Recycled Glass), consisting of 80% recycled content and mainly comprised of large glass aggregates, available in either a gloss or satin finish; or HPC (High Performance Concrete), comprised of very small aggregates and only available in a satin finish. SatinStone™ RG and HPC Concrete are both permanently pre-sealed. Re-sealing is not necessary, nor is it recommended for either product.

Can SatinStone™ Concrete be stained? There is no such thing as a stain proof countertop. However, SatinStone™ is highly stain resistant. RG and HPC are both resistant to etching from normal food acids for short durations of time with RG demonstrating a higher level of acid resistance. (The surface will become more prone to staining if it is allowed to be acid etched.) Most food stains can be removed with bleach.

Can fissures occur in HPC?  Non structural fissures can occur in HPC. They do not result in a change to the feel of the surface but can become visually apparent.

How easy is it to maintain? Soap and water are all that’s usually necessary for cleaning. Re-sealing is not necessary and is not recommended. An occasional application of Lemon Clean Pledge may be used to restore water beading and luster to your countertops. It also provides extra protection against acid etching.

Is it heat resistant? SatinStone™ Concrete is extremely heat resistant. It can be used as a surround for a wood or gas burning fireplace.

How does SatinStone™ Concrete compare to quartz or granite when used outdoors? Quartz tends to fade dramatically outdoors. Plus, the resin that binds the quartz together typically breaks down. The current industry standard for producing granite slabs requires the application of resin during the polishing or honing process to fill divots and fissures. Again the resin typically breaks down when exposed to UV radiation and will tend to blister. With a very high resistance to UV rays and ability to withstand outdoor elements, SatinStone™ RG and HPC Concrete is recommended for outdoor use.

SatinStone™ Soapstone

The SatinStone™ Soapstone Collection is a natural alternative to quartz with the additional advantages of greater UV and heat resistance. It’s permanently pre-sealed and the color is enhanced. Available in a satin finish, SatinStone™ Soapstone does not require re-sealing, nor is it recommended.

Can SatinStone™ Soapstone be stained? There is no such thing as a stain proof countertop. However, SatinStone™ is highly stain resistant, and compares as well or better than polished quartz products.

Are there advantages of using SatinStone™ Soapstone instead of standard soapstone? The advantage of the SatinStone™ sealing process is that it significantly enhances the scratch resistance of soapstone while permanently enhancing and sealing the surface. SatinStone™ Soapstone is less prone to scratching and chipping and the proprietary sealer permanently enhances the color of the soapstone to simplify care and maintenance. Standard soapstone is very susceptible to scratching and needs to be oiled regularly to maintain a dark rich appearance.

The current industry standard for producing granite slabs requires the application of resin during the polishing or honing process to fill divots and fissures. Again the resin typically breaks down when exposed to UV radiation and will tend to blister. SatinStone™ Soapstone can be used outdoors because it is UV resistant and chemically resistant. However, the surface is softer than SatinStone™ Granite (suede finish) and may be mechanically worn down over time by rain water, which carries particulates. In that case the surface may fade.

SatinStone™ Quartzite/Marble+

The SatinStone™  Quartzite/Marble+ Collection offers a selection of quartzite/marble, limestone, and travertine each available in a gloss, satin, or suede finish. It is UV and heat resistant. The SatinStone™ Quartzite/Marble+ Collection does not require resealing, nor is it recommended.

Can SatinStone Quartzite/Marble+ be stained?  There is no such thing as a stain proof countertop. However, SatinStoneTM  quartzite/marble, limestone, and travertine slabs are highly stain resistant. The SatinStoneTM sealing process will not prevent etching from normal from food acids such as wine, power drinks, tomato sauce, vinegar, and lemon juice. An etched surface will become more prone to staining. However some quartzite are less prone to etching than marble.*

An occasional application of Lemon Clean Pledge may be used to restore water beading and luster to your countertop. It also provides extra protection against acid etching.

Is it heat resistant?  The SatinStone™ Quartzite/Marble+ Collection is extremely heat resistant for normal countertop use. Materials in this collection can be used as surrounds for wood or gas burning fireplaces with a properly prepared base.

Can it be used outdoors? Acid rain along with the particulates in rain can mechanically cause wear on the surface resulting in a change to the aesthetic. For this reason, SatinStone™  quartzite/marble, limestone, and travertine are not recommended for outdoor use. SatinStoneTMGranite (suede finish) or Concrete is recommended for outdoor use.

*Most food stains can be removed with bleach.
